Hey FEM!

Do you feel like you’re in the middle of “weathering a storm”? Meaning that you are hanging on the that light pole for dear life trying so hard not to get sucked away.

Today, three generations of women, my GiGi, my mom and I, weathered the storm.

I will NEVER forget this moment. This is a true testament to the strength, ingenuity, and bravery of women.

Now, before I really start telling you what had happened. As I was running outside in a panic to save my father’s pop up tent, I had the thought about how there wasn’t a man to “save us” or “take care of it”. Because, usually that’s what would happen.

I saw three SHEROS jumping into action to save this tent. It may seem so simple but the winds were 50 MPS and it was raining hard. On top of that I had on nothing but socks so my feet were wet!

I know… ew!

My mother and I ran to the two legs of the tent that were already lifting. We managed to get them into the downward position but once we went to do the same to the other side the tent LIFTED again. But this time I was nearly hanging on.

I was also worried about my great grandma, GiGi is what we call her. Oh! Was she giving it her all, holding on to that tent. I climbed up on the the picnic table to try and get a better grip on the structure’s inner beams.

“Let’s roll it. Let it to the side and you hop in it.” Gigi said. I did as told and it was so much easier than wrestling with it the way I was before.

”Wait, go check and see if the shed is open!” My mother held. I took off, checked one shed and it was locked. I ran to the other and THANK GOD it was open. “It’s open!” I try to shout back but my voice was lost in the wind.

I run back to them and start to guide them to the shed. “Gigi, switch with me and you guide us. I can hold the legs of the tent.” She goes in front of my mom and I to direct us into the shed.

SWOOOOSH! A huge gust of wind came and we were holding the tent in that direction. Gigantic mistake. The top of the tent catches the wind and damn near blows both of us off our feet.

But we hold steady and adjust the tent top to face downward as we wiggle and jiggle this tent into the shed. “This way. That way. Be careful of the ground!” Man we were trying so hard to make sure this tent wasn’t damaged in any way.

The tent is secured, the wind is picking up speed, we are yards from the house. We make a run for it after the shed is locked up.

Feet are soaked. Dress is soaked. Hair is soaked. Body is tired. We collapsed into the coaches and chairs.

The burning sensation of PRIDE in our teamwork, bravery, and strength was hard to contain.

My father walks through the door shortly after and I’m hyped! I’m going on and on about how we wrestled the tent into submission through the tough conditions… he just looks at me. Unimpressed.

His response short and dull, “Okay.”

“Like WHAT?! Dude! How could you be so meh about this?” Is what I am thinking in my head but I held it to myself. My mother and I looking back and forth at each other. Annoyed.

This got me thinking. Why wasn’t this something impressive to him and yet to my mother, Gigi, and myself we were empowered, elated, buzzing with energy about it?

Unfortunately, our battles are only impressive to us women. Sometimes we are the only other individuals who will see the significance in what it takes to break through a moment of uncertainty and fear.

Was it a life threatening experience? Not at all.
Was it a scary moment? For sure!

It was scary because I didn’t want the tent to fly away, I didn’t know how much worse the weather was going to get while we were out there, and I didn’t know if my children were going to attempt to run out in a moment of concern and try to help. (Because they are also VERY heroic 🤣)

I tell this story because I want other women to know that it doesn’t have to be a HUGE feat to be brave, strong, or courage. It can be as mundane as taking down a tent during a tornado.

You are able to do the things you have in your heart and in your mind that you want to do. What makes this is even more possible is that you have a community of women to weather the storms of life with you.

I hope this was an enjoyable story and that the message connected with you. If it did please reply to this email and answer the question, “What is something brave you have done recently?” No matter if it was big or small. I would love to know!

Much Love & Many Blessings,
